The Unusual Breakfast and Lunch

Finally I can share some proper food photos that my husband managed to shoot while we were in Indonesia.

The photos above are some snacks or breakfast snack that you can buy in the early morning for breakfast and snacks. When I say early in the morning, it’s around at least 5am. But most places open from 6am. Not so healthy breakfast I know, but they’re yummy :P Something I miss here in Sweden.

My parents’ homemade bakso

Looks familiar? Yup, it’s Bakso (Indonesian meatball soup). My parents’ made it. How? My dad made the meatballs and my mum did the rest. Photo by husband. And me? I’m just eating it :P.¬†I’ve shared the recipe of bakso as well. You can check it out if you haven’t seen it and want to enjoy a bowl of warm meatball soup in the cold winter ;)

Next is… Fish. We caught these fishes ourselves.

Hahaha.. of course not. Someone caught them for us. Not fisherman. A family really. My family is super big and the person who caught the fish was my aunty’s friend who lived with my grandparents for a while when she was in the high school. But she’s already like a family. And she and her husband own a few big ponds for fishing for public. And when we went to her fishing place, she was about to drain one of the pond. So she gave some (by some I mean a looot) of the fishes to us to bring home. Lucky it wasn’t only my family (dad, mum and sisters), but my aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces also come along. Enough fish for everyone :D

Oh, almost forgot. The photos above are from one of the day when I have to help my sister cook for lunch and dinner. And because of my husband and daughter can’t eat spicy food, so we cooked the fish in 2 different styles. Hopefully I remember to share the recipes with you soon.

Rujak Buah (Indonesian fruit salad with peanut and palm sugar sauce)

Here is a lunch. My parents’ have mango and jambu tree. So we picked these fruit straight from the tree. And then my dad suddenly feel like eating rujak. So my sister made the sauce and there we have. Rujak for lunch :D

Clockwise: Cempedak, Jambu, Longan, Rambutan

Now you can see the whole fruit of Jambu. I dunno how to describe it but husband said it taste like between apple and pear but with sponge texture. I dunno :P

Longans and rambutans are still young.

So, that’s all I can share today.

Btw, did you notice the new logo I put in every photo? I just made it this morning. I dunno how to make logo and stuffs like that. But I like orange colour and sun flower. So of course I have to add those 2 things in my logo. Do you like it? I’m quite happy with it actually. I think it’s cute :D

      Forgot to mention start fruit, jack fruit, sour soup as well ;)
      Breakfast snacks is just the way I’m trying to explain those stuffs in the first photo. They can be eaten as a snack any time in the day but you can also eat them as breakfast :D

  1. How could you said that the breakfast Indonesian isn’t that kind of healthy???
    i guess our body need loaded more of energy which means larger calories and sugar, someting that not that hard to digest, it’s all about sugar and sweets…..
    btw, i do agree it’s all delicious!!!

      Hahaha.. you’re the second one saying that how could I say our breakfast isn’t healthy :D
      I didn’t mean it that way to be honest. But comparing to at least Swedish breakfast, ours don’t look as healthy. We eat fried foods, lot of sugar and lots of carbs in the morning. And it’s not me saying it because I’m fine with Indonesian breakfast. In fact I wish I can eat nasi kuning, nasi pecel, lontong sayur etc in the morning here, especially in the winter ;)

  2. Yupp, i’ve try a whole grain pancake, chia seed, flaxseed, quinoa, bircher muesly, and even the fancier “organic” rolled oats, i’ve got a starving 3 hours later,
    i guess nothing better than nasi goreng and nasi uduk, never even try with gorengan once, tempting to try, LoL, hehehe

      Tell me about it. I tried to eat low fat yogurt with lemon and honey tea around 8am and by 10am I’m already looking for something else to munch on. Hahaha..
      But full meal breakfast can keep me survive at least until 11 or 12 :D
      Pan kata orang perut orang Indonesia belum puas klo belum kena nasi :D :D

  3. Lovely photos :D That definitely beats a breakfast of toast and eggs hhaha. I had to google what the jambu fruit was, turns out I’ve had them back in the Philippines (called makopa there). And rambutan wow…I’m getting nostalgic for tropical fruits.

    Fantastic breakfast memories! In India we also have many tropical fruits and it is so much fun to have them! I guess we start taking for granted what we have when we have it! :-)
