A couple of days ago I made this banana chocolate turnover-ish snack. And when I uploaded the photo in my facebook, some of friends requested me to priority this recipe so they can try it themselves too. You see, I have something to tell you about my habit when I’m blogging. When most of food bloggers post about the food they make at the same day or maybe the next day the latest, I usually blog about them at least 2 weeks the fastest, sometimes even a month or more. When I have the mood to cook lots of foods then I’ll be too tired to write anything about it. So I usually write when I don’t have the mood to try new recipes. I guess some of my friends know about that habit, because it usually take me forever to post about a recipe they ask me about. That’s why I priority this recipe.

Anyway, I don’t know how to translate this snack’s name to English. I decided with turnover-ish because the pastry is very similar with puff pastry, but easier to make.

I got the recipe from Indonesian cooking group. It was a hit in the group, everyone wanted to try this recipe because the original recipe didn’t use butter in it, only margarine. I guess that’s one of the reason everyone was so interested in this version. Much cheaper. But I don’t have margarine at home (I don’t remember when was the last time I had margarine in my fridge). I like butter a lot more. It smells better. It tastes better. More expensive than margarine, yes, but worth it.

Ok then, let’s take a look at the recipe straight away :)

Bolen Pisang Coklat

  • Servings: 16 pieces
  • Difficulty: medium

Ingredients #1:

  • 100g all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 75g butter

Ingredients #2:

  • 200g all purpose flour
  • 30g icing sugar
  • 80ml cold water
  • 75g butter

Filling:

  • 4 Bananas
  • Chocolate

Additional ingredient:

  • egg wash

How to:

  • Mix all the ingredients #1. Set aside. Rest for 10 minutes.
  • Mix all the ingredients #2. Knead until slightly elastic and has a little bit smooth surface. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Cut the banana into 2 and then half it lengthwise.
  • Divide both dough into 16 equal pieces (I use kitchen scale for this).
  • Take one #2 dough and form into a ball and flatten it a little bit. Take one #1 dough, place it in the middle of #2 dough. Wrap it tight and nice.
  • Flatten the dough with a rolling pin. Fold it. Flatten it. Fold it. Flatten it. Fold it again and flatten it again. Take 1 banana and some chocolate chips. Wrap it with the dough and place into the prepared baking pan.
  • Repeat the process.
  • Bake in 180°C for around 15 minutes and then brush with some egg wash and sprinkle some chocolate sprinkles. Put it back into the oven and bake for 15 minutes more.
  • Let it cool down. Serve.

I know this is another tricky recipe to explain. I’m really bad at explaining things (even husband said so). So if you want to try this recipe, please do not hesitate to ask me, if you’re not sure what to do.

  2. This looks delicious. The cross section looks deliciously layered with all your ingredients! I think it depends on what Im making if I end up writing straight afterwards or sometime further on. Baking exhausts me, so Im more likely to plan those. Cooking means i stuff my face, then unwind with wine + the laptop :)
