Very easy pasta recipe. I like it because the sauce is light compare to creamy or bolognese sauce. And the chilli flakes just make it perfect. I love spicy food (I’m sure you know that by now ^^).
I used to eat this often when I was working in Singapore. I fell in love with this sauce since then 🙂
I read a bit about this sauce. Most of them use pancetta, but I dunno how I can substitute that one ingredient. So I just decided to put in some prawns (my hubby doesn’t fancy vegetarian food much :P) And to be honest, I don’t like short pasta that much (penne, macaroni etc) except fusilli and orzo (orzo is sooooooo cute, it tasted a bit funky for me too, looked like rice but when you expect rice-taste you’ll get pasta-taste instead). I dunno why I’m very picky with my pasta, I think they taste different (hubby insists they taste the same). Spaghetti and linguine I like the most, and always have any of them ready in my kitchen.
1 can chopped tomato (400g)
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp chilli flakes (optional, depending on your taste)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp fresh basil, thinly sliced
salt & pepper
– In a cold large pan / pot, add olive oil , onion and garlic. Turn on the heat.
– Add your tomato and chilli flakes, bring it to the boil.
– Add salt and pepper.
– Now you can add your prawns, stir and turn off the heat. Let the remaining heat in the sauce to cook the prawns.
– Serve with your pasta and grated parmesan.
